   Pressure Canner Lid Testing

I's that time of year to have your pressure canner lid checked and tested, especially before you begin to use it.  The plugs and gaskets periodically need to be replaced to ensure you have a good seal on your pressure canner.  Weighted-gauged pressure canners do not need any further testing.  But if you have a dial-gauge canner, you need to have it tested for accuracy annually.  To set up an appointment, contact Renay Knapp, Family and Consumer Sciences Extension Agent at 828-697-4891.  Or drop it by the North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Henderson County Center, located in Jackson Park, at any time for testing later.  All you need to bring is the Presto gauge or lid.  This service is free of charge.
