‘Tis the season! For what, you might ask? For summer and fall programs here at the Cooperative Extension Office!
The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) will be providing FREE summer/fall camps and classes for families and children of all ages. From our Mommy & Me classes to Advanced Teen Cuisine to Families Eating Smart and Moving More, there’s something for everybody!

Each class will introduce topics such as food safety, nutrition, exercise, and basic cooking skills—all while we have fun!

The following are descriptions of each class, including registration deadlines. Space is limited, so early registration is greatly encouraged.

  • Kids in the Kitchen – Grades K-2
    • Dates and Times: June 13-16, 9-10 a.m.
    • Registration Deadline: June 3, 5 p.m.
    • Come have fun learning about what it takes to be a chef! We’ll learn about kitchen safety, germs, and the food groups through fun activities and healthy snacks. Each class will include a healthy recipe and physical activity, so come join us and become Kids in the Kitchen!
  • Kids in the Kitchen – Grades 3-5
    • Dates and Times: June 13-16, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
    • Registration Deadline: June 3, 5 p.m.
    • Come have fun learning about what it takes to be a chef! We’ll learn about kitchen safety, germs, and the food groups through fun activities and healthy snacks. Each class will include a healthy recipe and physical activity, so come join us and become Kids in the Kitchen!
  • Mommy & Me – Mothers and Children (Infant-K)
    • Dates and Times: Bi-weekly meetings, June 16-October 20, 1:30-2:30 p.m.

  • Camp, Cook, Play – Grades 4-7
    • Dates and Times: June 20-23, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
    • Registration Deadline: June 10, 5 p.m.
    • Come play with us and learn all about the five food groups! We’ll make snacks, play games, and do activities that help us learn more about all of the different kinds of foods we eat. Each class includes healthy snacks, physical activity, and educational games.
  • Building My Body – Grade 3
    • Dates and Times: July 5-8, 9-10 a.m.
    • Registration Deadline: June 24, 5 p.m.
    • Building My Body is a fun, in-depth series on the components of our foods: carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, and more! Classes will include a healthy snack, physical activity, educational games, and different skill-building activities, such as problem-solving, reading and writing. 
  • Choosing Foods for Me – Grade 4
    • Dates and Times: July 5-8, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
    • Registration Deadline: June 24, 5 p.m.
    • Choosing Foods for Me is a fun, in-depth series on food safety and how to make healthy food choices! Classes will include a healthy snack, physical activity, educational games, and different skill-building activities, such as problem-solving, reading and writing. 
  • Camp, Cook, Play – Grades K-3
    • Dates and Times: July 5-8, 12-3 p.m.
    • Registration Deadline: June 24, 5 p.m.
    • Come play with us and learn all about the five food groups! We’ll make snacks, play games, and do activities that help us learn more about all of the different kinds of foods we eat. Each class includes healthy snacks, physical activity, and educational games.
  • Fun With Food and Fitness – Grade 1
    • Dates and Times: July 11-15, 9-10 a.m.
    • Registration Deadline: July 1, 5 p.m.
    • Fun with Food and Fitness is a fun, in-depth series on food safety and the MyPlate food group recommendations. Students will learn about where our foods come from and fun ways to eat healthier foods! Classes will include a healthy snack, physical activity, educational games, and different skill-building activities, such as reading and writing. 
  • Teen Cuisine – Grades 8-12
    • Dates and Times: July 18-22, 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
    • Registration Deadline: July 8, 5 p.m.
    • Teen Cuisine is a nutrition curriculum from Virginia Cooperative Extension. This curriculum is designed to teach 6-12th grade youth important life skills to promote optimal health – both in the present and in the future. The curriculum addresses key concepts about nutrition, food preparation and cooking, food safety, and physical activity using approaches and strategies that enhance learning and behavior change among teens.
  • Exploring the Food Groups – Grade 5
    • Dates and Times: July 25-28, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
    • Registration Deadline: July 15, 5 p.m.
    • Exploring the Food Groups is a fun, in-depth series on food safety and the five food groups. Students will learn about foods all around the world and fun ways to eat healthier foods! Each class will include a healthy snack, physical activity, educational games, and different skill-building activities, such as reading and writing.

  • Families Eating Smart and Moving More (families of all ages!)
