Tis’ the season to connect with family and friends, bake sweets, sing songs of joy, share gifts and make memories. This Holiday you can provide a gift that memories are made of and make an impact a youth will remember for years to come by giving the gift of 4-H camp.

For more than 80 years, North Carolina 4-H camping has taught youth life skills through centers located from the mountains to the sandhills to the coast!

Max and Aiden

Providing the financial opportunity for youth to attend 4-H Camp will provide more than a safe, secure, and healthy environment to explore life-long adventures. 4-H camp also provides young people an opportunity to develop life skills, social skills, physical health, mental wellness, and connection with community and nature in a fun-filled setting with qualified and nurturing camp staff.

The mission of the 4-H camping program is to use natural and social environments to provide learning experiences that are age-appropriate. The hands-on learning experiences they will participate in are canoeing, archery, swimming, horseback riding, ropes/ challenge course, and recreational activities. These life skills will expand their confidence levels in teamwork, communication, self-esteem, and self-reliance. All 4-H residential camps are accredited by the American Camp Association. Learn more about the individual camps!

How Can You Contribute to Impact a Youth’s Camp Experience?

The cost for camp attendance is $500.00 per youth. While this cost is below the National residential camp average, according to American Camp Association camping trends, it can still be a hinderance for a family to afford sending their youth to 4-H camp.

If you decide to gift a child a sponsorship 100% of whatever is contributed will go towards a youth camp tuition and/or camp experience.

Q. Would I have to sponsor the full amount of $500.00 to be considered?
A. Short and sweetly, no! Any gift towards a camper will be wonderful, accepted graciously, and recognized as such!

Q. May I choose the youth I would like to sponsor for 4-H Camp?
A. This answer would depend on the various situations. If you know of a youth you think would enjoy and benefit from attending camp, absolutely! If you prefer, it may be a youth Henderson County 4-H has contact with and you may correspond with via mail, email, or in person. You can also choose to be anonymous.

Q. Are camp donations tax-deductible?
A. 4-H is considered a non-profit through our tax-exempt status. You would need to discuss with your accountant, but we can provide receipts for tax deductions.

If you would like to learn more please contact Henderson County 4-H agent Hannah Worrell at Hannah_worrell@ncus.edu or call the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Henderson County Center.
