Learning about citizenship is an important part of 4-H. Citizenship includes learning about the rights and duties of a citizen, touring government buildings, following the issues in an election, voting, and much more. What a great year to learn about citizenship! The Stars and Stripes Citizenship Award was created by 4-H alumni Janet and Briana Gover to reward one teen 4-H member each year for his or her citizenship activity. The winner will receive a trip to NC 4-H Citizenship Focus. This award is given in memory of former 4-H Agent, Earl Smith, who loved his church, family, and his country. Flag etiquette was his specialty. A committee of 4-H alumni will determine the award winner each year.

Are there citizenship activities that you can do? Start keeping track of them each year and record them in your 4-H project record. If you are age 14-18 as of January 1, 2020, click here for the Stars-and-Stripes-Citizenship-Award-Packet. You may be the winner of the award this year!
