WNC Pesticide Collection Day

Who: Farmers & Homeowners needing to dispose of pesticides (no dealers, businesses, or retailers)

What: Free Pesticide Disposal Collection Day

When: Thursday, October 24 at 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Where: Mountain Horticultural Crops Research & Extension Center, 74 Research Drive, Mills River, NC 28759 (lower entrance near greenhouses and other buildings) *Please note that the road is out between Sierra Nevada and the Research Station, but you can enter from Broadpointe Drive or Old Fanning Bridge Road.

What Items Will Be Taken:

  • Only Accepting Pesticides at this Event
  • No ‘Unknowns’ Will Be Accepted: We will do all we can to ID the material.
  • Do Not Mix or Co-mingle Materials: Do NOT pile materials together! Potentially hazardous compatibility issues could cause loads to be rejected and an additional cost to be incurred – keep solids, liquids, and fertilizers separated.
  • No Storm Debris: Our Contractor CANNOT accept pesticide-contaminated storm debris. Contact your local Solid Waste Department.
  • Liquids in Bulk Containers: We cannot accept liquids in bulk containers (drums, totes, tanks) at this event. Please contact us to discuss potential other arrangements.
  • No Pressurized Pesticide Cylinders: We do not accept pressurized cylinders thru the Pesticide Disposal  but we may be able to assist in other ways. Contact us to discuss options. Pesticide aerosols are fine.
  • Pesticides from outside the County: YES, pesticides can be brought to the Collection Day from ANY North Carolina county.
