Join Henderson County 4-H and “learn by doing” during our Library 4-H Discovery Series!

Each month, Henderson County 4-H will be hosting an hour-long program at the Edneyville, Green River, and Etowah Library branches to highlight a different aspect of 4-H. Programs will include topics in agriculture, civic engagement, healthy living, and science. Come learn about all the opportunities 4-H has to offer!

All programs are free but registration is required. Please register at hendersonpl.libcal.com

Edneyville Branch

June 3rd @ 4:00 p.m. – Stream Ecology

Participants will learn the importance of a healthy stream ecosystem as it relates to water quality. They will learn about the effects of pollution and how to identify tolerant vs. intolerant species as an indicator for pollution.

July 8th @ 4:00 p.m. – Soil Science

Participants will “dig into soil” and explore why soils are critical to all life on Earth. Participants will learn the difference between soil and dirt and discover that healthy soils are alive.

August 12th @ 4:00 p.m. – Nature Journal

Participants will create Nature Journals they can use to record observations about the natural world. Participants will learn how to use their journals as a tool to help them study the world and grow their relationship to the Earth.

Green River Branch

May 15th @ 3:30 p.m. – Intro to Birding

Join Henderson County 4-H at the Green River Library and become a Citizen Scientist! During this program participants will learn the importance of citizen science and how they can contribute to scientific efforts in their community. Participants will learn the basics of birding and how to input their findings into scientific databases such as eBird.

June 17th @ 4:30 p.m. – Nature Journal

Join Henderson County 4-H at the Green River Library to create your own Nature Journal! During this program participants will learn how to use their journals as a tool to study the world around them and grow their relationship to the Earth.

July 15th @ 4:30 p.m. – Intro to Circuits

Join Henderson County 4-H at the Green River Library to discover the magic of electricity! During this one hour program participants will be introduced to basic concepts of electricity and create their own paper circuits.

Etowah Branch

June 5th@ 3:00 p.m. – Intro to Gardening

Join us to grow your knowledge about plants! During this program, participants will learn about the life cycle of a plant, discover what plants need to survive, and take home their own plant to nurture.

July 3rd @ 3:00 p.m. – Intro to Birding

Join us to become a Citizen Scientist! During this program, participants will learn the importance of citizen science and how they can contribute to scientific efforts in their community. Participants will learn the basics of birding and how to input their findings into scientific databases such as eBird.

August 14th @ 3:00 p.m. – Nature Journal
