Let's Try Waffles for Breakfast!

There is such a delicious addition that you can make to your breakfast: the humble waffle. And with waffle makers available in so many sizes and shapes, it's easy to get creative with your breakfast grain!

By choosing whole-grain waffles, you get amazing benefits: antioxidants, B vitamins, fiber, protein, healthy fats, and minerals. Eating more whole grains may help reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and colorectal cancer.

For an easy, nutritious way to enjoy waffles, try the recipe below with your young chefs:

 

Waffle Fruit Sandwich


Yield: 1 serving

Ingredients:


  • 1 frozen (or fresh) whole-grain waffle
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter (or cream cheese if allergic to peanuts)
  • Sliced fruit of your choice

Directions:


  1. Toast the waffle in the toaster (or cook according to directions).
  2. Spread the waffle with 1 tablespoon of peanut butter (or cream cheese). Cut waffle in half.
  3. On one half of the waffle, place fruit on top of peanut butter (or cream cheese). Place the other half of the waffle on top, peanut butter (or cream cheese) side down to make a waffle sandwich.
