pawpaw
Pawpaws are a low-maintenance backyard fruit that do not need to be sprayed. They can be found as an understory tree in the wild but will produce more fruit in full sun. Tastes like a custardy mix of banana and mango. Fun fact: pawpaw is the only native fruit found in North America that is in the same family as mango (Annonaceae).

Serviceberry (also known as Juneberry) fruits in early June in our region. The fruit tastes like a blueberry with subtle hints of almond, apple and cherry. Serviceberry is a low-maintenance, small tree that makes a great home landscape plant. Birds love the berries, so you might want to plant a few!
