Henderson County 4-H FRESH Program 2024

Henderson County 4-H and the National Park Service are thrilled to announce the continuation of the FRESH (Flat Rock’s Exceptional Sandburg Helpers) Program for summer 2024!

FRESH participants will have the opportunity to learn about goat care and management, complete daily chores, and interact with visitors to discuss the history and significance of the Carl Sandburg Home NHS. 

This year, the program will span over 6 weeks from June 15th - July 27th, providing an immersive experience for youth interested in agriculture, history, and community service. Each participant must commit to one 3.5-hour shift per week and 3 additional FRESH 4-H Club Meetings throughout the duration of the program. Open to youth ages 11-17!

Required Dates


  • Parent Orientation: May 14th, 6:30 - 7:30 pm at the Henderson County Extension Office
  • Participant Orientation: June 15th, 9am - 3pm at Carl Sandburg's
  • 1st Fresh 4-H Club Meeting: June 25th 2-3pm
  • 2nd FRESH 4-H Club Meeting: July 16th  2-3pm
  • Final FRESH 4-H Club Meeting: July 30th  2-3pm
To be eligible for participation, interested individuals must submit a completed application. Participants will be selected based on their application responses.
