The Historic Johnson Farm, located at 3346 Haywood Road, Hendersonville, provides cultural heritage experiences and educational opportunities for school children and the community. In 1987, the farm was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, Henderson County Schools owns the farm buildings and grounds while the daily operations are managed by the Historic Johnson Farm Foundation.

Volunteers maintain the various gardens on the property, which include flower gardens, an herb garden and a vegetable garden. Gardeners meet each Monday at the property, usually at 9:00 a.m. and work until around noon planting, weeding, deadheading and doing whatever needs to be done to keep the grounds healthy and attractive. The annual plant and craft sale in May, just before Mother's Day, helps as a fundraiser to purchase items needed for the gardens such as plants, seeds, fertilizer and some tools. These are not formal gardens and individuals are encouraged to bring their own brand of expertise or experimentation.
