Plant Health Alert - Water Newly Planted Trees, Shrubs and Turf

(Updated: Dec. 16, 2025, 5:19 a.m.)

With the lovely fall weather we are having it is easy to forget newly installed plants need water.  We should water newly planted trees, shrubs and turf weekly during the growing season. The equivalent of one inch of water per week should be enough.

Irrigate newly planted trees, shrubs and turf

Don't lose your investment in time and money by letting your plants get dry. Even if you planted last fall, these plants should be considered newly planted and watered accordingly. Generally, water new plants daily for a week, then three times a week the second week then once per week after that. Be sure to let water soak into the ground deeply.
