With the clear lovely weather that we are having it is easy to forget that we are entering into a drought. Newly installed plants need water. Not just plants planted this year but anything planted in the last couple of years is likely in need of water right now. We should water newly planted trees, shrubs and turf weekly during the growing season. The equivalent of one inch of water per week should be enough.
Plant Health Alert - It Is Dry, Water Your Plants
(Updated: April 15, 2026, 3:01 p.m.)
Don’t lose your investment in time and money by letting your plants get dry. Even if you planted last fall, these plants should be considered newly planted and watered accordingly. Generally, water new plants daily for a week, then three times a week the second week then once per week after that. Be sure to let water soak into the ground deeply.
