Flies can be a real nuisance, especially if you live near something that may encourage breeding. Dog droppings in yards, pet kennels, livestock farms and chicken houses can generate flies. If you have any of these fly generating operations do what you can to control flies. Most home owners with nuisance fly problems do not have fly generating operations but rather live near one.

Indoor fly control is pretty simple. Traps are available. Fly swatters work. Make sure to use screens in windows and do not leave doors or windows open. Spraying insecticides indoors is not usually necessary but in severe cases may be necessary.

Spraying for flies in a home landscape is really not effective, either. There are certainly pesticides that are very effective at killing flies. However, more flies will simply come in later from elsewhere such as nearby livestock fields or some other area where the flies breed. The same is true for mosquitoes as well. Finally, spraying your landscape with an insecticide would not only kill flies but all the other insects in your yard including bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects as well. We don't want to do that do we?
