When choosing what to grow for 2024, Bullington focused on natives, plants that attract pollinators, new introductions, and old favorites. Native plant lovers will be able to purchase Oconee bells, (Shortia galacifolia) a rare woodland native found only in the Appalachian Mountains. Native Agastache, (Aromatic, Blue Giant), and native hybrid ‘Guava Lava’ will appease the pollinators this spring. Unusual plants like ‘Tractor Seat’ Ligularia and ‘Pink Lemonade’ Baptisia will add to the new and unusual category. Bullington chose trees that are highly prized such as Mountain camellia (Stewartia pseudocamillia) and Sweetbay magnolia ‘Moonstruck’, as well as a variety of unusual dwarf conifers. The infamous yellow ‘Bartzilla’ peony makes a comeback this year as well.
