Lenoir, N.C. –  Nolan Wallace, age 15 of Lenoir, has been selected by the North Carolina 4-H Livestock office to attend the tenth annual Billy Nance Family 4-H Meat Goat Leadership Institute on February 22, 2020, in Raleigh, NC. The institute is part of the Nance family’s commitment to the development of future meat goat industry leaders.

Wallace said he expects to gain leadership skills to use in his everyday life.

“I also hope to gain knowledge of the meat goat industry as a whole,” he said. “Some of the biggest issues related to the meat goat industry are finding good and helpful people to work and the rising costs of keeping the goats.”

Thirty youth from across the state were selected to attend this animal science experience.

“The institute is designed to equip young people with the necessary tools needed to become an effective leader,” read the application. “Additionally, youth will be challenged to take the skills acquired at this event and put them into action in their home counties, districts, and at the state and national levels.”

Wallace, a sophomore at Caldwell Early College High School, also participates in Beta Club and Interact Club. He has represented his school at the Model United Nations Conference hosted by Appalachian State University the past two years. Wallace is also active in the youth group at Living Hope Church Lenoir.
