“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day”. The reason behind this saying holds a lot of support. Breakfast is the boost our body needs to get our day started. According to Clemson University Extension, one of the factors behind the importance of breakfast is the replenishment of blood sugar levels.

Since our bodies have been fasting or not consuming food for energy since dinner or evening snack the night before, we are starting off with low blood glucose levels, which are important for providing energy and cognitive function of our brains. By starting your day off with a good carbohydrate-filled breakfast, we’re able to tackle things like work and school in the morning.

Eating breakfast is not just about getting that initial fuel for energy. Breakfast also helps to balance out your diet, so you’re not overloading or over consuming at other meals and snacks during the day. One example discussed by Clemson University Extension, is how breakfast can reduce the risk of heart disease. When we consume breakfast, were most likely to curb on the amount of fat we consume throughout the day as opposed to someone who may skip their breakfast.

Some people may feel that they don’t have time for breakfast and may visualize it as an elaborate meal to prepare within the short time they may have between waking up and getting to work. Nevertheless, breakfast can be something you plan the night before, with a jar of overnight oats and fruit for the morning. It can also be as simple as grabbing a banana and some cereal or granola on-the-go before your commute. The next time you think about getting breakfast in, take time to think about your morning routine and how much time you have to make breakfast, and plan your breakfast out from there. Because no matter what you eat, breakfast is the most important meal of the day!
