An open forum entitled “Congregations: How Does Your Garden Grow?” will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Hickory. The forum will focus on how congregations can use gardening, from window boxes to large gardens that help feed the community, to build connection to caring for God’s creation and relationships in their congregation and neighborhoods. Practical knowledge will be shared about how to start and sustain a gardening ministry.

Representatives from congregations who already have gardens and those who are considering starting ones are especially invited to the forum. Special invitations have been extended to representatives of churches who have experience with church gardens including First United Methodist Church, Corinth Reformed Church, Highland United Methodist Church, St. Luke’s United Methodist, Northminster Presbyterian Church, and Viewmont Baptist Church who will share their knowledge and practices. Anelle Ammons, Extension Agent, Agricultural and Natural Resources, N.C. Cooperative Extension, Catawba County Center, Marcus Miller from Hickory Greenway Harvest, and Justus Rowe, of The City Farm Project will be present to share the support their organizations can offer congregations in their gardening endeavors.

The forum will be held in the education building of Northminster Presbyterian Church which is located at 3730 N. Center St. Hickory, NC 28601. This forum is sponsored by Foothills Creation Care Alliance. For further information, contact Rev. Bill Garrard, EarthKeeper, pastorgarrard@hotmail.com, 828-962-7566.
