Agriculture & Food: Commercial Horticulture, Nursery, & Turf Henderson County is rich in horticultural diversity. The county can boast of being the home of the NC Apple festival and still is one of the leading producer of apples in the Southeast, producing over 85% of the apples grown in NC. Apples remain a $15-24,000,000 crop. The county is also a large producer of vegetables ranking 2nd or 3rd in the entire state every year. The largest commodity is ornamentals. The county has over 55 acres of greenhouse grown crops, 2000 acres of sod and over 3000 acres of landscape trees and shrubs, producing over $100,000,000 in gross sales.
