Teddy Bears Needed
Janet Gover will be teaching a class about Community Service projects at the Volunteer Leaders' Conference. She is collecting small teddy bears (12" or smaller) for this class. Participants will make quilts to go with them, and the bears (with quilts) will be given to police departments or other first responders, to have on hand for children. Please deliver bears to NC Cooperative Extension, Henderson County Center by January 27.

4-H Performing Arts Troupe
In recognition of the North Carolina 4-H Centennial, we are pleased
to announce that in 2009 4-H’ers and leaders from across the state
will have the opportunity to be involved in a new version of the
4-H Performing Arts Troupe. We will rehearse and stage an
original musical theatre production written to celebrate the
100 year history of 4-H in North Carolina as part of the Centennial
Celebration at 4-H Congress. There will be a $300 participant
fee for all 4-H aged performers and technical students to cover
the cost of the rehearsal weekend in May and the weekend rehearsals

The Interdisciplinary National Science Project Incorporating Research
and Education Experience, or INSPIRE, is a multi-tiered year-round program designed for students in ninth- to 12th -grade who are interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education and careers. NASA INSPIRE is recruiting high school students to join an online community, where their interests can be nurtured and directed. From this online community, students will be offered
opportunities to take trips to NASA, have a resident experience at a
technology university, or even a summer internship at a NASA center.
Students selected for INSPIRE will:
-Participate in the INSPIRE Online Community.
--Learn about science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM,fields of study and careers.
--Compete for unique summer experiences at a NASA facility.

There are six 4-H Centers
in North Carolina. Camp will be offered at all of them throughout the
summer. July 5 - 10 is Henderson County's week for this reduced rate
at Swannanoa. To reserve your spot at this rate, a $50 deposit is due
to Henderson County 4-H by January 15, 2009. Yes, you can use 4-H Fun
Bucks.
Public Speaking and Leadership Class for Teens on Wednesday Mornings
The Four Seasons Toastmasters Club is sponsoring a Youth Leadership Program beginning January 14, 2009 at Lake Pointe Landing in Hendersonville. Theprogram is designed to help young people learn speaking and leadership skillsthey will need to be successful adults. It is an 8-week course which will meetat 9:15am following the adult meeting. Kids program is proud and excited to announce the first OMK Photography and
Arts Contest.The contest is opened to
youth.The age categories are 5-8 years
old, 9-10 years old, 11-12 years old, 13-15 years old, and 16-18 years
old.The contest is designed to
introduce youth to Visual Arts as a part of the 4-H Expressive Arts
Curriculum.Youth will utilize their skills
and their artistry to capture their view of America and patriotism.
Selected visual arts
will be displayed during the week of the 2009 North Carolina 4-H Congress, other events
and appropriate venues.

4H LIT club is recycling as our fundraiser. We are collecting faucets. If you, neighbor, friend, or coworker are switching out a faucet, we will take the old one off your hands and keep it out of the landfill! I will also take copper pipes, alum. gutters/windows.
