New Rocket 4-H Club forming

The Rocket 4-H Club joins the WNC Rocket Club for a monthly launch on School House Road, behind Van Wingerdon's.  The next launch will be Sunday, Nov. 22, from 1:00 - 5:00 pm.  In case of bad weather, the group will meet at Mills River Community Center, during the same time frame, to work on rockets.

The next 4-H Club meeting, for youth in grades 7 - 12 will be Monday, December 7, at Opportunity House at 6:30 pm.  Contact Dan Hoffman for more information.

West District 4-H Volunteer Leaders' Meeting and Potluck Supper - Parents, Teens, and Leaders are needed!

The West District will be in charge of the Country Store and Auction for the NC 4-H Volunteer Leaders' Conference, February 5 - 7.  Crafts and good "yard sale" type items are needed.  Do you know business owners who would donate items for the store?  Contact Denise for more information.

State Council Conference (for teens) and
ACE Master Volunteer Training (for adults)

Register by Wed., Oct. 28. 

These events will be held at two different sites in Raleigh, but they are planned on the same date so that Adult Volunteers and teens can ride together.  Contact Denise or call 697-4891 for more information.  We will meet at the NC Cooperative Extension, Henderson County Center at 4:00 on Friday, Nov. 21, and spend Friday night in Cary.  We should arrive back about 6:00 on Sunday.  You will need spending money for supper on Friday and lunch on Sunday.

State Council Conference:  We are 4-H:  Then, Now and Forever!
For teens
Conference is at the North Raleigh Hilton.
Workshops will include Leadership and Ambassador Classes. 
Be sure to pack 4-H t-shirts!
Saturday evening is the Youth Recognition Banquet and Dance.

Cost:  $150.  Henderson County 4-H will pay half of this fee for those taking Ambassador classes.

Confirm with Cindy that she has a copy of your Medical Release and Photo Release.
Ask her for a detailed schedule for the weekend. 

ACE Master Volunteer Training - Participants will stay at the Ramada Inn Blue Ridge and commute to Brickhaven, the 4-H building, which is close by, for classes.  Total cost is $80.  Henderson County 4-H will pay half.  Hotel registration is included in this fee, so you do not need to contact the hotel. 

This weekend retreat will be an opportunity for volunteers to receive core credits, plus gain 3 contact hours for elective training to be offered during the instruction time.  Time is included on the agenda for individuals to work on completing the needed reflection pages and to leave the training with very little additional work to do in preparation for submitting portfolios for review by the November 23 deadline.

Holiday mail for our U.S. troops stationed in
Iraq and Afghanistan should be sent by Dec. 4 for arrival by Christmas.

The NC National Guard Family Readiness Program have provided 5 military personnel contacts in which the holiday cards and goody boxes can be sent.  All goody packages will be shared with everyone in the units.  Contact Denise for these addresses.

Mr. Danny Hill, Family Program Director with the Army Reserves has agreed to mail holiday cards and goody boxes  from his office.  He asks that all cards and packages be sent to him no later than December 1.  This way his office can sort and package all items being sent.

Hendersonville Christmas Parade

Saturday, Dec. 5

"Share a Slice of Hendersonville with the Magic of Christmas!"

Line up at Five Points by 9:30.  RSVP to Cindy or call 697-4891 by noon on Friday, Dec. 4, to let us know if your club will participate, so we can get your flag there.  Wagons, bikes, roller skates, or vehicles are welcome.  Dogs are also allowed in the parade, but they cannot stop with you and watch the parade from the sidewalk.  They need to leave right after the parade.  Please let us know if you plan to use a vehicle.  Don't forget to wear Santa hats and other Christmas decorations!   (But we cannot dress as Santa Claus.)

"I'm Dreaming of a Green Christmas"

Wear green!  Decorate with recycled materials!  Line up by 9:45 along Old Airport Road.  Participants should enter from Old Airport Road, from the Cane Creek and Mills Gap intersection.  All vehicles must be decorated with the green/recycle/care for the earth theme.  Make a musical instrument out of recycled materials!  Paint it green!
RSVP to Cindy by Friday, Dec. 11 at noon, if your club plans to be in the parade, so we can get your flag there.

4H LIT club is recycling as our fundraiser. We are collecting faucets. If you, neighbor, friend, or coworker are switching out a faucet, we will take the old one off your hands and keep it out of the landfill! I will also take copper pipes, alum. gutters/windows.

4-H Digital Mayhem Challenge
