Henderson County Awards System for 4-H Members For each year you are enrolled in 4-H, you can attain four levels ("jewels") - emerald, topaz, ruby and sapphire. To earn a level, you need to complete the requirements for that level during the year. Each year has a booklet which describes the requirements for each level and has space to record what you have accomplished. During year one, when you complete the requirements for the emerald level, you will receive an emerald jewel with a "1" in the middle. When you complete the requirements for the topaz level, you will receive a topaz jewel with a "1" in the middle. The same thing happens at the ruby and sapphire levels. You have an opportunity to earn four jewels each year that you are a 4-H member. The requirements for each level change with each year of 4-H membership. For example, someone who earns a year 1 ruby level will have different requirements from someone who earns a year 5 ruby level. As you complete the requirements, your club leader will verify your work. You will need to pick up a promotion level booklet from the 4-H office in order to get started earning the levels. A Henderson County 4-H name badge is the perfect way to display your emerald, topaz, ruby and sapphire jewels! Name badge/jewel order forms are available at the office. Name badges cost $10.00, which includes the first set of jewels. For each new set of jewels after the first year, a $5.00 jewel fee will need to be paid to the 4-H office before any jewels can be awarded for that year. If you have any questions about 4-H name badges or jewels, please contact Sue Janowiak, 4-H Program Assistant, at 697-4891.
