4-H FASHION REVUE (May/June) This event is a sewing contest open to area youth ages 5-18. To enter, youth complete an entry form and turn in their completed garment by the announced deadline. To be in the 4-H Fashion Revue, youth sew a garment at home with guidance from a parent or other knowledgeable adult, or they may sew a garment while attending 4-H sewing classes. Youth should select a pattern appropriate for their skill level. Extension staff has a "Make a Skirt without a Pattern" instruction guide that is appropriate for younger youth. The garment must be completed by the child (with appropriate supervision by an adult volunteer or parent as necessary for the child's age). Children 14 and older (age determined as of January 1 of the program year) must complete a "Short Record Form" and must sew a complete garment (i.e., a dress, a skirt and blouse, or pants and shirt) to be eligible to compete in state competition. The "Short Record Form" summarizes their experience in the sewing project and their overall leadership in 4-H. It counts as 25% of the scoring in county and state competition. Youth will turn in their garments to be evaluated for sewing construction. Then, youth will model their garments for the judges to evaluate fit, overall look, and poise. The judging results are kept secret until the awards program following the 4-H Fashion Revue. All youth model their garments during the 4-H Fashion Revue that will be held during County Activity Day. Awards will be announced during the afternoon awards program on County Activity Day. Awards
Senior participants will compete for the opportunity to represent Henderson County in state competition. Based upon the number of participants in the 4-H Fashion Revue, our county can send 1-3 delegates to state competition.
* Please note the age divisions for the 4-H Fashion Revue are different from normal competitive age division in 4-H to remain consistent with state age divisions for this event. Thank you to My Quilt Shoppe for sponsoring the Henderson County 4-H Fashion Revue in 2009. |
