Contribute to 4-HWhy does 4-H need to raise money? 4-H develops lifeskills in youth through hands-on learning. Sewing classes, providing incubators and quail eggs to second grade classes, funding leadership training and all of our other programs require funding. The money for 4-H educational programs and awards is provided by contributions from individuals, businesses, and the Kiwanis of Hendersonville. As participation in our programs, contests, and clubs grow, more funds are needed. Here are some easy ways to support 4-H: Buy plants ! Each spring, the 4-H Advisory Board will sell bare root plants (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and more) as a fundraiser. Because we join other counties with this fundraiser, we order large quantities, and can offer great prices. Email Barbara_Walker@ncsu.edu if you're interested in purchasing quality plants at reduced rates. Purchase grocery gift cards from Ivy Olson, secretary. Henderson County 4-H will receive 5% of the purchase price. You can use the gift card to purchase groceries, prescriptions, or gas. Using the grocery gift card for gas will give you a discount of 3 cents per gallon. If you purchase the gift card representing a club member, he or she will receive 1% of the purchase price as reimbursement for 4-H expenses. Call Ivy at 697-4891 for more information. Link your grocery bonus card to Henderson County 4-H. Call Denise Sherrill at (828)697-4891, or email her at Denise_Sherrill@ncsu.edu. Include your mailing address. You will be mailed bar code to scan with your grocery bonus card, to link your card to 4-H. A new bar code will need to be scanned each year. Bi-Lo does not charge the customer, but donates a percentage of each purchase to 4-H. Henderson County 4-H has endowments with the Community Foundation of Henderson County, and the NC 4-H Development Fund. Please consider a donation to one of our endowments. Click here to learn about the Armstrong- Smith Endowment with the NC 4-H Development Fund. Contributions sent as memorials for Jean Miller, 4-H Secretary for 47 years, will fund scholarships for students to 4-H Camp or Congress. Because 4-H is a non-profit organization, contributions are tax-deductible. Please mail contributions to: Henderson County 4-H, 740 Glover St., Hendersonville, NC 28792. Specify if you would like your donation to help sponsor a specific event or award, or to add to the endowment funds. 4-H staff salaries are paid by county and state governments, so your contributions go entirely to 4-H programs.
